Want to know how close you are to eternity? Take two fingers and place them along the side of your neck. Feel and find your pulse. Out loud count the beats and feel the rhythm.

Every beat is started by an electric impulse. Before the beginning of time God gave you a specified number of impulses. If the electrical impulse does not happen, you are now traveling toward only one of two places. Depending on your life’s decision to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior or choose another deity to serve and worship you will spend eternity in torment or in triumph.

My heart skips beats from time to time. During that brief period when my heart is not shocked into beating by an electrical impulse, I know I am dead. Strange feeling. I can be walking, at the computer, or making supper when all of a sudden my heart misses a few beats. I know if God does not give me an electrical charge then I am dead.

That is how close eternity is. Heartbeats, so many happen and we do not even think about them. However, each is a reminder that life here is not forever but forever is still coming for each of us.

Heaven is real. Hell is real. And they are the forever. Where do you want to spend your eternity? Before your next heartbeat, decide. And hang on. The ride will not always be fun, but it will be worth it. God says so.

  1. It is truly wonderful to know that
God is in control. It’s amazing to think about His design plan for us.
