Sometimes I have to slow down the busyness of life. Life can contain more baggage than I am able to tote around successfully. The weight of all the responsibilities and cares can indeed get heavy. New health issues never make it any easier. To add insult to injury, I have just recently read that “middle age” describes people in the 40 to 60-year-old range. That would be me on the tail end of middle age. Turning 55 actually enters you into the senior citizen demographic. No wonder I am slowing down for the business of life. These old bones are tired. This is the truth for the majority of us “middle-agers” who are almost “senior citizens.” However, let’s maximize our slow down in the busyness of life to get the most benefit.
Humor
A little bit of humor goes a long way. And honestly, there are some days when if I don’t laugh I will surely cry. Humor is an awesome re-router and diversion from the weight of life. I think this is one of the reasons I love my husband so much. He always is bringing humor to the table. His humorous puns have changed the direction of many sour moods and deflected lots of potentially explosive arguments. Humor adjusts attitude in a good way and attitude determines altitude. My husband understands this. His funny but not funny “Dad style” jokes are truly refreshing as we are growing older. So slowing down to take in some humor is a good thing in the busyness of life.
Rest
Rest is NOT an option. It is THE best way to slow down and recharge for round two, or three, or four in your busy life. I honestly don’t even know why we have to be reminded to rest. Taking a 5 or 10-minute mental rest for prayer or meditation will give you better focus and solutions. Actually, taking that break a step further, I LOVE a quick power nap. It totally recharges my battery. All it takes for me to fall asleep is to stay still for longer than 5 minutes and you will hear me snoring. Well, maybe not “snoring” but definitely breathing more deeply. But seriously, several hours of scheduled sleep is very needed, especially when factoring in all the midnight bathroom treks. Rest is critical to slowing down the busyness of life.
Health
Health issues definitely MAKE you slow down the busyness of life. A flood of health issues comes your way after age 50, just as you were getting used to needing reading glasses. I can interject a little humor here like, “How is the moon like dentures? They both come out at night!” Bahahaha! How’s that for my attempt at a “Dad joke?” But seriously, teeth, bone, joint, and heart issues come out of the woodwork after turning 50. I choose NOT to dwell on these health issues. Instead, I focus on tweaking my diet, my daily exercise regime, and my devotion time with Jesus to cope. I take my spiritual health seriously. Jesus is my Rock, my counselor, and my peace. He restores my soul when it is depleted and helps me make wise choices. I will always choose to slow down the busyness of my life for Him.
Configuration Conclusion
We all need to slow down the busyness of life. I can enjoy the aging process a lot more when I can stop and smell the roses once in a while. Life gets heavy. We need to remember that humor is a great coping skill to lighten it up. Even silly “Dad jokes” can be a mood-lifting benefit for the atmosphere around you. Stop and rest. The grind will still be there when you get back. Rest does a mind, body, and soul good. It is NOT an option. Try power napping. You might like it. And lastly, don’t neglect nor ignore your health. Adjust your daily choices to make a lifestyle change to counter the effects of growing older. We all want to stay as vibrant as we can even if we are starting to close out our middle-age years. Big sigh~ So slow down the busyness of life to make the most of it. Cherish every moment!
