It’s March Ya’ll! Time to garden your heart out! Gardening fever is real and contagious this time of year. Here in Florida, Japanese Magnolia trees and Azalea bushes are blooming. The trees are budding out and temperatures are wonderfully mild. It is the best time to clear flower beds out so that I can plant a new plot of floral beauty to enjoy and fall in love with anew. While relishing gardening on the outside, it is an ideal time to focus on the internal garden of my heart. It is a blessed quiet time to replace any offensive weeds in my heart with worthy and productive seeds of God’s Word. To all my northern friends who still haven’t made it quite this far into spring, hang in there! You are almost there!! It’s March! In just a few weeks you will be able to garden your heart out too!
Spring Brings On Gardening Fever
Springtime always brings on gardening fever. Gratitude and joy bubble up in my heart when I see all the beautiful blooms and colors returning to the landscape. God created a world of intricate springtime beauty for us to rejoice in after winter. Once seed catalogs arrive in late January, my dreaming and gardening fervor begins. Each seed contains so much potential to behold! I am reminded to spiritually plant the powerful and productive seeds of God’s Word into the soil of my heart. Zeroing in on two or three new seed varieties to work with, my master plan begins to form both in my garden and my heart. There is so much happiness in knowing the tiny seed sitting temporarily in my hand, once planted, will produce a spectacular flower or a mouth-watering vegetable. Nothing compares to a homegrown tomato! Oh! The rewards of spring gardening fever.
Roll Up Your Sleeves; Let’s Get Dirty
Time to roll up my sleeves and get dirty. Of course, a valuable pair of gardening gloves is a real asset when removing dried brush, stems, and briars. Digging in the dirt and preparing the earth for planting is satisfying to my soul. During this time, I also think of the seeds that have been planted in my heart throughout my life. While I am outside with my sleeves rolled up, digging around in the dirt, I am reminded that we are all just earthen vessels that can carry the spectacular blessing of the Holy Spirit within. Gardening is the best time to reconnect and commune with the Lord, the Gardener of my heart and soul. He knows just what to do when I don’t. It might take a little work. So, roll up your sleeves, get out there, and don’t be afraid to get dirty. It’ll do you good!
April Showers Bring May Flowers
April showers do bring May flowers. However, if the showers don’t happen naturally, you may have to water the plants yourself. Whichever way watering occurs, showering them with what they need will bring flowers. I like to water early in the day so that my plants have enough “oomph” to outlast the noonday sun. A little watering can go a long way. When the seeds of God’s Word are planted in our hearts, God sends someone to water them too. He nourishes each seed planted to fruition in our lives. Likewise, watering enables the plants to uptake the nutrients from the soil and establish a healthy root system. If it is April, May, or June, create the showers needed for the Word Of God AND the flowers to bloom prolifically.
Garden Your Heart Out
March trumpets out to me, “Get your garden ON!” Springtime, no matter where you, are brings out the gardening fever in all of us. All those visions of flowering gardens, flower pot-lined porches, and beautified walkways are waiting! Dreams of homegrown green beans, summer squash, and tomatoes on my dinner table already make my mouth water. Roll up your sleeves and get dirty! Showers bring flowers ya’ll! You can only harvest what has been planted, both physically and spiritually. While out in the garden reconnect and commune with God, the Gardener of your heart. It’s March! Garden your heart out! The yard (and your heart) is the canvas!
It’s that time again, put me to work baby
Springtime does require a lot of muscle work! LOL!
Beautiful flowers!
Thank You! 🙂
When my hands are dirty, my heart is happy. I like to focus on just 3 or 4 ‘Star Players’ in the veggie garden. When I’m planning, I imagine tidy rows. But, I have an aversion to limiting myself to those 3 or 4 things. The result is that no matter how I set out to make a neatly ordered garden, I end up with a jumble that makes me humble. I don’t care, though. I’m having fun making a mess.
I can relate! Messy is good as long as you garden, Amen! 🙂
