February Fur Baby Friday – “Got The Blues!”

February is such a “meh” month as far as weather goes. Even my Fur Babies seem to be less than thrilled with the fickle weather that February is often known for. Laying around listening to the “blues” is right up their alley at the moment. So the question I began pondering is, “Do dogs really listen to music?” We’ve heard that playing music or talking to a plant stimulates growth. Why wouldn’t dogs benefit from listening to the blues on this February Fur Baby Friday?

Fur Baby Musical Interest

Fur Babies benefit from most all the things that benefit their human owners. A descent amount of exercise, the correct healthy diet, love, a safe place, warm bed, and lots of hugs appeals to them as much as to us. Why wouldn’t listening to music bring our fur babies as much joy and pleasure as it does us humans. Music is known to affect our moods and emotions. A sad song can make us cry; an upbeat song can make us want to dance. Our fur babies are sensitive to our moods and emotions so I am quite certain they would be sensitive to the sound of music around them. Just check out this charming YouTube video:

Actual Hearing Equipment

Our fur babies have better hearing equipment and can hear up to four times better that their human counterparts. Fur Babies have twelve muscles in their ears. Their ears demonstrate emotions of fear, interest, engagement, and non-concern. Canine ears rotate so that they can receive sounds from all directions. I have yet to see any human do that! Fur Babies acoustic ability far outweighs human acoustic ability. But even Fur Babies can be hearing impaired. Scientists are working to develop canine hearing aids for fur babies who are hearing impaired. With this new piece of hearing equipment, then Fur Babies can also listen to the music of the world around them.

Sound Of Music Challenge

Instead of the hills being alive with the sound of music in February, I challenge you to bring the sound of music to your Fur Babies. Watch their reactions and see if they have a preference. Maybe your Fur Baby will sing along with you. See if they seem happy or even sad because of the melody. The Sound of Music Challenge may gain more respect for your Fur Baby’s intelligence by trying out this exercise. It doesn’t take anything more than a few tunes to do this challenge. Who knows, but you may discover that your Fur Baby is a budding musical prodigy.
