Let me introduce you to Cody. He is a senior fur baby who through no fault of his own had to be re-homed. His owners of over 14 years went into assisted living. He misses them so much. Cody is incredibly pitiful and grabs at your heart strings without even trying to. The stress that he was under after being re-homed the first time had him running away in search of his original home and loving owner. Thoughts of the 1993 movie “Homeward Bound – An Incredible Journey” came to mind. Thank God a passing stranger saw him and took Cody to the vet on his dog tags. That is how we got involved. We rescued Cody.
Three Dog Nights
We were not looking for a third fur baby. Our two, large fur babies are sufficient for us. However, we could not leave Cody out in the cold. Most animal shelters, including the local one here, will euthanize senior animals instead of trying to re-home them. Senior dogs often come with health issues that require frequent visits to the vet, ambulatory problems, shorter life spans, and dietary issues. Cody has been accustomed to eating chicken. Add two large territorial dogs to the mix and it could spell disaster. Praise God! My fur babies accepted little Cody into their pack. I am especially proud of my senior female dog Pepper Girl who has taken to Cody and stays close to him. Cody has a Mama Dog friend in her. Salty Dawg isn’t sure what to do but has been following Pepper’s lead. Cody now has a pet pal support system.
Love Conquers All
New beginnings are stressful. Love and kindness ease that stress. Pet pals are as important to our fur babies as new friends are to seniors entering assisted living. Having someone saying it’s going to be okay and I’m here for you means a lot. Pet pals are vital for fur babies too. Cody now feels at home here. He is no longer lonely and afraid. People and fur babies alike need this, just like in the classic 1967 Beatle’s song, “I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends.” Another Beatles classic that can be aptly applied is the song “Help.” A little nostalgia here.
I will leave you with this final thought… God cares for all the animals He created, even little sparrows. He has designed everyone of us to be relational, first towards Him and then each other. God is love. Even fur babies need pet pals to love and help them through life. God has blessed Cody with a couple of pet pals to help him along. What a good reminder for us all. A sincere pal is a treasure. Let us never forget that for a moment. Have a blessed Fur Baby Friday! <3
