I know that most people would call this day of the week Throwback Thursday but today I am going to change it up a bit! Today is the day that I am deciding to tackle some really tough cleaning jobs in my home. Things that when I look at them … well … I’d rather just pass on doing. Unfortunately, that is what has happened a few times too many and we are in the situation that we are in today. Well, I have had enough of it! Today is the day to “Git ‘er done!” I have redubbed today “Tackle It TODAY Thursday!” BUT sisters! Not without gloves!
The Bathroom Shower
It always amazes me how fast the shower can become dirty. I mean, it is the place where we all go and use soap and water to clean ourselves up. It happens it seems like overnight. The soap scum builds up and the dirt attaches to it and my once white shower is no longer white. It doesn’t help if you have hard water that is full of minerals. Those minerals build up and seemingly cement the dirt in place. So today, I am taking a good hour or so to really deep clean my bathroom shower.
First, I grabbed a can of that scrubbing bubble spray that is supposed to do all the work so you don’t have to. Next, I grab that Mr. Clean miracle eraser that usually crumbles to pieces. Finally, I brought out my pink rubber gloves! Okay! Let’s get this party started! I sprayed the whole can on the shower and let it sit for a good 15-20 minutes with the air vent on. I open the miracle erase sponge and don my pink rubber gloves. This method really breaks down the soap scum and I don’t have to scrub hard at all! By the halfway point the miracle erase sponge has broke in two but I keep going. When done, I throw it in the trash! Now, my shower’s hardware is sparkling and the shower is white once more! YAY!
The Overused Air Fryer
Okay ya’ll! Here’s where it gets real! We LOVE our air fryer! I can honestly say that it has taken the place of my toaster, my microwave oven, and my stove oven. It is fantastic how everything comes out crispy without deep frying it in oil. Every single person in my household uses this on a daily basis. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner it is being used. The problem is … no one is cleaning it after each use. There! I said it! I confessed! The biggest project that I am tackling today is this. It is worse than cleaning your oven after Thanksgiving Day! The baked-on grease is horrible to clean off the small individual vent spaces. Ugh! 🙁
While it is best to clean right after every use. That didn’t happen so now I am desperate enough to resort to some serious chemicals to loosen up the baked-on grease gunk. Instead, I am taking the air fryer out of commission for a day to try a more natural approach with baking soda and vinegar. Make sure that if you are doing this you unplug it first. After making a paste and applying it I sprayed straight vinegar on it. I let it sit for a good hour or two. I needed to do this twice ladies. It was A JOB! But now, I can say it is DONE!
The Bathroom Toilet
Just the thought of cleaning a toilet has me wanting to go the other way. I truly wish that someone would come up with a self-cleaning toilet! I know you girls are with me on that! Out of the three of my” Tackle It Today Thursday” projects this one was the one that needed the least energy to complete! It did take me a while to build up my bravado to get in there and just do it! No lie! But I did! It looks and smells soooo much better!
A toothbrush works wonders while working around the lid hinges and bolts down by the floor. Vinegar comes to the rescue to dissolve any hard water mineral build-up. Just pour it in and let it sit for a few hours while you are tackling the other projects on your to-do list. Give it a quick scrub with your brush and then flush to rinse. Put some liquid soap that smells great in the bowl, give it a quick swish, and then leave it. I use Clorox or Lysol wipes to clean the tank, lid, handle, seat, and outer bowl. Toilet bowl cleaner with bleach works best on the grout around the back and the sides of the toilet. Allow it to sit for 15-30 minutes. Rinse with a wet rag repeatedly and we’re done!
Now, Sit Back And Kick Your Feet Up For A Few!
I always feel so much better after getting some of those grungy jobs done! It is like AFTER the dog has been bathed he is such a joy to be around and pet. The actual job of washing him… well… not so much a joy to do. In all honesty, I have to really work myself up to doing some of these dirty jobs. Where is Mike Rowe when you need him! LOL! But hey! We repurposed our Thursday to get some tough jobs done! I’m proud of you! You can still do your Throwback Thursday on social media now that the work is done! Have a great Thursday Sisters!
