So what if the groundhog saw his shadow predicting another six long weeks of winter! Bring Spring inside right now in the middle of winter! Set your focus on planning and preparing for spring now! Grab a notebook, pen, glue stick, garden magazines, and catalogs. Create a visual dream of what you would like to plant in your garden during these six weeks! Search out the names, prices, and planting zones for each of those plants. Write down all the thoughts that come to mind as you research. It may still be the middle of winter outside but spring will be budding inside!
Choose Your Color Scheme
Spring is the time where every color that you can think of is in bloom. Bright new greens, whites, purples, blues, pinks, reds, and yellows are bursting all around. Choose your favorite color to begin your Springtime Visual Notebook and begin listing each type of flower. Clip pictures from garden magazines, seed catalogs, or news flyers and glue them on the pages. You can organize your Springtime Visual Notebook by color if you like. Then, we will begin work in a budget section.
Budget Friendly
Working on a budget section may seem like it will take the fun out of this project. Instead, it will enable you to implement the best options for your money’s value. Put your money on perennials that do well in your plant hardiness zone. Find your plant hardiness zone by clicking here: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/planting-zones/usda-planting-zone-map.htm. Perennials will continue to come back year after year. You will get the biggest bang for your buck with them. Seasonal annuals will bring you joy for a shorter amount of time. Determine a budget amount, write it down in your notebook, and save the money needed to accomplish it. With that completed, we will start landscaping plans.
Landscaping Plans
With the color scheme and budget planning out of the way, let’s begin with landscaping plans. I landscape frugally. I have two flower beds in front that I planted perennials in past years. Those same perennials are still filling a big portion of the front flower beds. All I have to do is place a little color pop here and there. Start by drawing a simple map of the areas that you want to work on in your Springtime Vision Notebook. Next, think of which plants to put where using the map. Keep in mind things like the height of the various plants you like and also their water requirements. Don’t plant drought-resistant plants next to plants that need frequent watering. Place taller plants in the back and shorter ones in the front for a nice looking landscape.
Final Ideas
A Springtime Vision Notebook can also be done virtually. Pinterest would be a fantastic place to pin ideas to work with. Creating a virtual landscape map or budget may be more challenging but still possible. With all the daydreaming of spring to consider and choose from six weeks will fly by. Lastly, a beautiful and tangible way to bring Spring inside right now is to purchase a potted tulip. Check your local Lowe’s for this affordable early spring plant to set out as a reminder that Spring is indeed on the way.
