“He counts the number of stars; He calls them all by name” Psalm 147:4 (NKJV)
Many cultures choose to make their own Christmas decorations using paper and other items that they have in abundance. It is a tradition that is often passed down through generations. COVID19 has limited what we can do, but this is a positive and inexpensive way to celebrate the season even if we are apart. While I didn’t search out any historical points for this topic I did have a lot of enjoyment making these paper crafts for Christmas this year.
With children out of school and Christmas almost here, your grandkids may or may not be visiting or possibly spending a few nights. Here are two paper craft ideas that can occupy their time if they are. These paper stars and trees can decorate areas that still need a just little touch more. I plan to use our paper stars and trees around my hot cocoa bar but they would also grace a fireplace mantle nicely. It will be the perfect touch!
As I was writing this post it dawned on me that there was a definite connection between these two Christmas symbols that I had chosen. First, there was the Star of Bethlehem that announced the birth of Christ. That star led the kings and shepherds to the humble stable where He lay in a manger. Next, before Christ’s ministry began, He worked with the wood of trees as a carpenter. In conclusion, Christ’s life was given for us on a cross made from the wood of a tree. These very simple, festive, and fun Christmas papercrafts also have meaning.
Supply List
- Paper – We used simple copy paper but you can use any type of paper on hand. The larger the paper the bigger the star or tree
- Scissors – a basic pair
- A pencil or ruler to help with folding creases
- Glue (optional)
- Accessories (optional) like glitter, sequin, pearls, gems, paint to embellish if you like. I left ours plain for a more rustic look.
STARS
“The moon and the stars to govern the night; His love endures forever” Psalm136:9 (NIV)
I fell in love with these paper stars. You can make a dozen in no time at all! These can be left plain and simple or embellished with glitter, pearls, and jewels. Tie them together to make a garland or hang them on the tree. You can even do this together long-distance via ZOOM or video chat. I know you will find many pretty uses for these stars. Here is the link for the tutorial: https://youtu.be/aJmyK0TQFSE. It is under seven minutes from start to finish.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the heavens proclaim the work of His hands” Psalm 19:1 (NIV)
TREES
“For He says to the snow,’ Fall on the earth’; likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength” Job 37:6 (NKJV)
These trees look like they would be difficult to make, however, they are very simple. I like the white copy paper especially for them. It makes me think of trees heavy laden with fresh new snow. That is beautiful to me. I used to see snow ladened trees often in the winters where I grew up as a child. Now, I have to resort to being creative to find a symbolic snow-laden anything. You can make these larger by using a larger piece of paper. I used copy paper with all the crafts in this post. You can find the tutorial when you click on this link: https://youtu.be/TZAsOQiZMEs. From start to finish the video is under eight minutes.
“Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the LORD. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth.” (NKJV)
Summarizing this up, creating these are enjoyable and festive! First, put on some Christmas carols to set the mood. Second, grab some paper and scissors with a cup of hot cocoa. Third, click the tutorial video link. Next, create some of the most beautiful, festive, and inexpensive Christmas stars and trees to give or to decorate with. Lastly, have a very Merry Christmas ya’ll! Be blessed!
Such a cute idea. Will need to try this out.
Good job
