“I thank my God upon my every remembrance of you.”
Philippians 1:3
I have decided to put effort into rediscovering the lost art of handwriting letters and greeting cards. COVID19 has us all penned up and feeling isolated. A little creativity for staying in contact can make a difference to a lonely soul. A long time ago, even in a different century than now, I used to write long letters, send cards, and packages all the time. Family and friends in return would reciprocate. Not sure it would be on such a grand scale as back in the day but who knows. It is such a blessing to receive a greeting with news from an old friend. I much rather receive a card or letter than a bill or junk mail. I plan to make a concerted effort in reviving the lost art of handwriting letters and greeting cards to be an encouragement in 2021.
The Letter
The other day I received an over-sized letter from a long-ago friend in the mail. Receiving the letter made my day! I was delighted to hear from her. We both had moved and lived some distance apart. It is a rare occasion to actually get to see and visit with each other. In addition to her actually taking the time to handwrite me the letter, my friend included several types of garden seeds to plant for the coming spring.
It was a cold dreary January day with drizzly rain and gray skies when I received it. I opened it and it immediately brought thoughts of sunshine to my day! I started thinking that I could start these seeds inside to give them a headstart for spring. These tiny little seeds redirected my vision forward to brighter, more colorful days. That letter was such a blessing to receive.
Be A Blessing
Being on the receiving end of such a thoughtful letter with seeds gifted to me inspired me to do the same. It was a blessing to pull from my mailbox. Many might feel this is an old fashioned idea. I, however, fully intend to rediscover the lost art of handwriting a letter and greeting cards. I will only need one or two faithful penpals to make this a beautiful relationship. Are you feeling a little lonely and isolated? Then I encourage you to join me in rediscovering the lost art of a handwritten letter. I am sure you can find a lonely soul that often crosses your mind as a recipient. Write them a greeting card or letter to brighten their day. It will bring them some happiness and a smile to your heart as well.
